FACETS OF WORK IN THE FUTURE

Technological marvels and the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 have unleashed a mini-revolution of sorts. The world and work as we know it has changed irrevocably in a short span of few years.  And the change will be like a ball on a roll downhill, gaining momentum each year with new tools being released to make work different as we know it.

In this blog, we shall be examining various facets of the work in the future with our magic prediction crystal ball in front of us.

Diversity pool of talent – With work from home or employing people in remote locations for full time, part-time or even on a contractual basis, the pool of talent available will expand like never before. Fresh talent, ideas, and perspectives will be available. Differently-abled people with talent and expertise will be employable and add to the diversity pool.  People from different geographies and communities will be part of the rainbow pool of talent.

Employee experiences – Companies that cater to their diverse employees (whether on location or in their homes) will do well and thrive.  Companies will have to pay particular attention to onboarding, wellness, and benefits to retain and nurture talent. Human resources will have to be prioritised.

HR departments revamped - The traditional roles and functions of the Human Resource department will undergo many changes. Their role will be critical to hire, retain, upskill, and nurture employees are on the up. Upskilling / reskilling / micro skilling, along with enhanced employee experience will be the norm. HR Department will lead to collaboration and fostering a spirit of camaraderie, and keep everyone happy in the long run.

Quick digital onboarding – The “slow as sloth” time taken by companies to enact digital makeovers will be over. Transformations as soon as possible say within weeks/months will be a norm, instead of taking years.

Appointment based work - In order to keep physical distancing regulations in mind, the firm of all natures and sizes will head for “appointment” based visits. Whether visiting public spaces such as galleries, museums or stores, banks, an appointment system will emerge and numbers limited to keep everyone safe.

Digital nomads - They are people who use various telecommunications tools to earn a living and, leading a nomadic existence. Such semi-permanent / freelance people often work remotely from overseas, coffee shops, public libraries, co-working spaces, and so on.  They are talented but not willing to be tethered. They can be assigned on a contract or project basis.

Power of bots – The role of bots will increase over time and they will play a crucial role in supporting departments in providing the much-needed human experience.

Omnipresent Artificial Intelligence – Artificial Intelligence or AI will be commonplace in our work lives and everyday experience Be it in the workflow, process automation, guided selling, customer communication, and customer data platforms, AI will be everywhere.

Green solutions and offices – We all need to do our bit to lead sustainable lives and minimise our impact on the environment. Use of energy-saving devices, green offices, and more responsible work and corporate culture will be a mandate, not an option if we need to avert a looming climate change crisis.
