Working in long stretches - Trying to work in a long stretch to overcome a deadline or in high spirits is a mistake people do. Deciding to work for 5-7 hours at a stretch is not a good idea. Working in long stretches can lead to giving up when it is least required, procrastination & delays as well as losing the purpose/work behind the time allocated. To avoid failure it is always recommended to work in small periods of time otherwise known as sprints. It is a time induced period of focussed, dedicated, and productive work of any nature.
Coping with distractions – All of us feel nowadays especially working from home in this Covid-19 scenario that we can manage/cope with distractions which will plague us through the day. Of course, this is not to say that distractions in the office do not occur. The nature of distractions differs in terms of the location you are working in. Instead of managing distractions, it is advisable to eliminate them if possible. This can take the form of switching off the notifications on your phone, working in a quiet place such as the conference room of the office for a few hours when it is empty; remove the social media apps from your phone/laptop/computer. Just small tips to eliminate distraction. You could even invest in a noise-cancelling headset.
Being harsh on yourself – Negative talk or being harsh on yourself is not the way to motivate oneself. It simply does not work. By saying to yourself - “I wish I wasn’t so lazy” or “If I was more disciplined, I would get better results”, guess what? It doesn’t pay. In the end, it pulls you down and reinforced your own self-belief. Instead, be easy on yourself. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle on yourself. With negativity removed, mood and energy improve results in greater productivity, which is what you are looking for the right. So why not try this approach and see better results.
Lack of planning - Productive people also has a plan, a checklist that they refer and adhere to. Working without a plan is setting yourself up for failure. Be productive with lists and plans, most successful people do.
