Salesforce Q2 '25 Earnings: The AI Revolution Continues
Salesforce released its Q2 '25 earnings, and as expected, they exceeded Wall Street’s predictions, driving up the company’s stock by 4%. But the real buzz? It’s all about AI. Specifically, Salesforce’s new platform, Agentforce, which was mentioned 39 times during the earnings call.
Public companies like Salesforce release quarterly earnings to give investors a clear picture of their performance. However, these earnings calls—led by executives like CEO Marc Benioff, COO Brian Millham, and CFO Amy Weaver—also serve to build excitement around the company and its vision for the future. While it’s wise to remain a bit skeptical of the hype, the Salesforce team did a great job of outlining the next big step in AI.
The Next Phase of AI: Autonomous Agents
Salesforce has been steadily hinting at its AI vision over the last few months, starting with their new Service Agent product, followed by a Sales Agent.
Back in 2016, Salesforce introduced Einstein, a predictive AI that analyzed past data to forecast future trends. We’ve since progressed from tools like Lead Scoring and Opportunity Insights to generative AI, which can create text, images, and even video from simple prompts.
But Salesforce sees the future in autonomous agents—AI that can operate independently. While predictive and generative AI have been groundbreaking, they don’t quite match the grand promises made about AI transforming our productivity. Summarizing Slack conversations is helpful, but it’s not going to generate the kind of economic impact that AI is capable of.
That’s where Salesforce’s Sales and Service Agents come in. These autonomous agents are designed to work around the clock, handling basic inquiries without human intervention.
The Sales Agent can respond to common prospect questions, even scheduling meetings for sales reps. On the other hand, the Service Agent elevates traditional chatbots by enabling real conversations, without the limits of pre-programmed responses. And these agents are multi-modal, meaning they can understand text, images, and videos.
What is Agentforce?
So, what’s all the buzz around Agentforce? As the Salesforce team hinted during the earnings call, it’s the platform on which these autonomous agents are built. Agentforce seems to be based on Airkit.ai, a company Salesforce acquired last year.
As Marc Benioff explained, "We’re building custom agents for many of you using Agentforce—it’s a development platform as well as a tool that can extend your sales and service capabilities."
Salesforce is offering pre-built Sales and Service Agents, while also providing the flexibility to create custom agents tailored to specific business needs. The excitement is hard to ignore, with Benioff stating that these breakthroughs mark a "quantum leap for AI."
Benioff also took a jab at Microsoft, claiming their AI copilots have disappointed customers due to a lack of accuracy and responsiveness. He expressed confidence that Salesforce’s solution will deliver much better results.
In the coming months, Salesforce plans to release more agents, including those designed for specific industries and healthcare. They’ve already shared some impressive early success stories with companies like the Royal Bank of Canada, ADP, and OpenTable, achieving up to 90% case resolution using Agentforce.
Looking Ahead
Is this the AI breakthrough we’ve been waiting for, or just another hype cycle? Time will tell. What’s clear is that Salesforce’s vision is ambitious, and the potential impact of autonomous agents is exciting.
Data Cloud, another key part of Salesforce’s AI strategy, continues to grow rapidly, with a 130% increase in customers last quarter. Salesforce is predicting that Data Cloud will be their fastest-growing product, reaching $1B in revenue quickly, and scaling to $5B and $10B shortly.
As Dreamforce approaches, Salesforce has been hinting at some big announcements. While they don’t usually tease major product reveals in advance, this time might be different.
