Why And How Nonprofits (NGO) Use Salesforce

Publish date:

“If we all act together - business, governments, NGOs and citizens and, especially, the young - just imagine the good we could create.” – Quote by Paul Polman, Dutch businessman.

Amit Kumar Aman and Mala run an animal shelter in the outskirts of Gurgaon where they have given a loving home to over 50 dogs in various physical conditions and recovering from various forms of trauma & abuse. They are assisted by a young group of paid employees as well as some well-meaning volunteers. They are however short of funds as well as short of manpower to handle the running of the shelter.  Amit with his background in Information-Technology saw a CRM (customer relationship management tool) as the solution to their problems. It seems incongruous – CRM and grassroots NGO. Yes, it’s possible for IT and NGOs to combine their strengths for the greater good of the world at large.

Why should an NGO invest in a CRM such as Salesforce for non-profit:

  • Nurture a relationship with all stakeholders such as volunteers, employees, media, and donors

  • Manage and track all fundraising activities

  • Smarter marketing campaigns

  • Measure the impact of the work

  • Streamline processes

A survey of NGOs in the United Kingdom threw up the following results:

Subject: % of NGOs using a CRM

  • 30% of small size NGOs use a CRM Platform

  • 55% of medium size NGOs use a CRM Platform

  • 80% of large  size NGOs use a CRM Platform

Subject: Uses of a CRM

  • 55% of NGOs thought it is to manage donors and supporters

  • 7% of the NGOs thought they help in business intelligence and reporting

  • 6% of the NGOs thought help in volunteer management

  • 7% of NGOs had no idea about CRMs and their uses

As you can see from the above results, knowledge of CRMs is gaining ground in the NGO circuit. More NGOs are adopting them knowing their advantages.

A CRM such as Salesforce for the non-profit is one unified platform that can integrate with other systems, apps, and technologies used by any NGO already. There are no issues with server space or security. It can be scaled up as the NGO and its work evolve over time. It gives a holistic of all data required for smooth running as increasing donations and outreach. Salesforce dashboards and reports features are user friendly as well as can be configured to obtain any data. This is a good tool for any NGO of any scale, location, and subject to use to improve overall efficiencies.

CRMs are a very powerful tool in the hands of NGOs to harness the power of technology to raise funds, engage with donors & potential donors as well as increase the reach & impact of the work that they do.
