TOP 10 TIPS TO KICK START YOUR JOURNEY IN THE SALESFORCE UNIVERSE

Publish date:

“Salesforce has given me focus in my career path,” said a Salesforce administrator.

Are you looking for a career in the Salesforce consulting universe, or do you know someone who is?  Then this blog is for you. Salesforce, which is the world’s leading CRM, has many career opportunities in the form of Salesforce consulting administrators, developers, implementation professionals, and much more. Salesforce is a platform used by small and big companies such as Toyota vehicles, Macy’s supermarket, and the NBC media conglomerate.  For youngsters looking to get a head start in their careers, working in Salesforce consulting with certification opens many doors of opportunity.  At the very outset, at least, organisations are looking for those with certifications.  This can begin with acquiring the skills of a Salesforce administrator after passing the certification exam. To enable you to get confident and look for possibilities, here are some useful tips to kick-start your journey in the Salesforce universe and with Salesforce consulting.

Here are the top tricks for a successful Salesforce career, as per Salesforce Consulting companies:

Study guide: Take your study guide seriously and keep it handy.  Keep referring to it during your revision period. The guide is your mantra to know about the exam, costs, resources, sample questions, and much more.  When put together, these can give you valuable insights leading to success at the end of the road. The many sections in the guide may appear daunting, but studying carefully and crossing each section will lead to a thorough understanding.

Study technique: Everyone is unique and has their ways of doing things. To this end, prepare your study technique and stick to it.  This includes making a list of media resources advised by Salesforce, which are in the form of videos, modules, and guides. Once you have made your schedule, go through all the resources, and make notes.

Where to take the exam: Salesforce gives you the freedom to choose where you would like to take the exam for the certification. This could be in the classroom-style test centre or the comfort of your own space using your laptop/desktop. There are pros and cons to both. However, at least in a test centre, the ambience is more conducive to focus without distractions of any sort. So, we suggest going to a test centre to take your exams if you are in a position to do so.

Salesforce schema: Do note that Salesforce exams include questions on schema (the relationship between objects). Illustrating the objects and relationships, including if they have lookups or junction relationships, can give you visual insight into the task.  This is a lot more helpful than staring at written texts and picturing them

Be focused. Salesforce exams follow the standard practice of multiple-choice answers. It is always good to study the questions and double-check your answers. If you are not familiar with a question, move on to others with whom you are. Revisit the tough questions later. It often happens that examinees revise their answers during the exam based on recall from memory or life experiences.

Maintenance exams: These exams are conducted to test your knowledge regularly. As Salesforce continuously releases updates three times a year with new features, upgrades, etc., and exams are taken for a fixed duration, it is important to retain your certification. Therefore, please do not take these lightly. These open-book exams are accessed through Trailhead and can be taken on any computer.  Prepare well, as they come at a hefty price. Read the trailhead module, release notes, videos, and blogs. Revise over and over.

Checking your replies: During the exam, you can tick certain questions you would like to review/revisit.  Before pressing the submit button, you can slot the replies on paper based on how confident you are of the answers (most confident, confident, and least confident).  If the maximum replies falls into the first slot, then you can go ahead and press submit.  If the reply list is greater in the 2nd and 3rd slots, then it’s time to revisit them if you have adequate time before getting up from the exam centre.

Trick questions: beware of trick questions that have two plausible answers, and both can be right. These are essential to testing your knowledge of Salesforce and its various facets.  So when in this situation, put on your Salesforce hat. Not your own.  This will make or break your reply.

Take the mock questions seriously – At the end of each revision guide, mock questions are listed, which throw up various scenarios. These are a big help, especially for those attempting to take exams for the first time.  Take them seriously. As there are no sample test papers by Salesforce, this is an attempt to expose you to hypothetical situations and prepare you for the exam.

Consult a colleague - Talking to a Salesforce Consulting colleague, friend or relative who has taken these exams is always a good idea. They can give you valuable tips and suggestions that may help you prepare and come out a winner.  As we all know, experience counts in every sphere of life. It’s no less here.

We all have the opportunity to think, meditate and plan our lives at leisure. This is a good time for young people to consider a career in Salesforce consulting.  The future is Salesforce and if you want to be a part of the future, then it is time to make up your mind and march right ahead. Take up training classes, take the exam and join the thousands of young people with bright careers and futures.
