Stressed man without a productive future

Publish date:

We already have entered New Year 2020 with all brand-new resolutions, the new cycle of birthdays and holidays, with more get-togethers and the most important, is with the expectations that we have from ourselves to gift something extra to our future in order to secure it.

But are we people actually doing anything for our future? This is a question that comes in mind of every second person but we people do nothing to achieve it. We all are so busy doing the daily grub work that we don’t even realize that we all have a life and a future which is meant to be beautiful. I also work in an organization and am so much trapped in the daily 8hrs job that I am unable to make time for myself or to learn something new apart from my processing field. Its 2020 and now I realized that instead of learning new things I am just stuck with my job. It's just a fact that we people are only busy but not productive.

Being busy is not the same as being productive. Being busy is like running on the treadmill whereas being productive is running to destination. In both cases, you are running but gaining something only in the second case.

We always direct ourselves towards productivity, getting tasks done, completing our daily checklist work, office job, finding and resolving errors. These are the things that push us to the next day then again, we do the same things on repeat. These things are really important for being productive but are more like running on a treadmill in which we can increase our speed of running but cannot change our place. Similarly, when we are in an organization, we complete our daily tasks given to us without doing anything extra for our better future. We really need to change this habit for being future selves. And in order to make necessary changes, we need to get down from the treadmill and run somewhere else.

If we focus on the above example in the context of learning, we can have two different types of learning.

1.   Grub/treadmill learning: This type of learning you do on a daily basis in your personal as well as in your professional life. This includes identifying problems, office work, household works, etc. This learning has its own value as it helps us to be productive, to get financial support and also checks things in our to-do list. Basically, it keeps us employed and financially fit. However, in this learning in the end, we are the same place from where we had started as such kind of learning is like a rattrap cage for us in which we limit our needs, interest, and activities or simply we limit us.

2.   Learning for a better future: The more challenging yet the best kind of learning. We every time love to feel productive which demands us to deprioritize the future to take care of everything now. But when we do the things off our list, it will probably satisfy us. It will often take time because it's very difficult for an individual to take out time from a daily hectic schedule. This type of learning doesn’t have a very immediate result as you might be unproductive for some period of time but you will surely find yourself happier in the future because it will head you towards the destination. So, try to learn the things you are interested in side by side with your work

In the end, I would only like to say that we have to come out from this grub or treadmill learning process. And the linchpin to achieving this to make time for the things which might be unproductive in the present but will surely be very productive for the future. So sometimes being unproductive can also be very productive if we are thinking of long-term goals. We should not stick to what we know and what we can do but should move out of the box and learn something extra. It could be anything like singing, coding, marketing, dancing anything but something extra. This something extra will gift you a better future and will surely help you out in the future to attain the goals. Plus, this will also give a sort of satisfaction and you will also feel refresh when you will learn new things apart from your daily routine work.

I have moved to learning for a better future. Now it’s time for you to think and choose which one is better for you.
