Challenge Yourself to New Things

Challenge Yourself to New Things

At the beginning of every New Year, we all make New Year resolutions and end up breaking them as fast. You could have made a resolution to lose weight, join a mountain trek, undertake volunteer work or even de-clutter your cupboard.  For a change, this year in 2020 challenge yourselves to undertake new things, to push your limits and get out of your comfort zone.

Challenging yourself to new things will help you grow as a person, evolve, be a better person. You could signup for a language course, learn baking, start cycling, join a hobby class or even start volunteering for a cause close to you.

The first step to challenging yourself is to make the leap of faith. Do not be afraid of taking risks or failure. Anything new feels odd or strange at times.  The more time you devote to this new activity etc will enable you to loosen up and get into a comfort zone.

Push yourself with baby steps. You do not need to feel compelled to challenge yourself by signing up for big stuff.  Eg you could open a recipe book and prepare a new dish or talk to a person who is not part of your social circle or read a book which is outside your comfort genre.

To ensure that you do not give up on your challenges, keep a diary. Note your journey (the highs and the lows). Re-visit the journey and build on the steps taken. This will ensure that you remain motivated and involved in these challenges.

Last but not the least, never give up. Try and try until you succeed. Winners do not lose heart. You will face hurdles and issues and low days.  Visualise yourself as a tiny ant climbing a hill. They do not give up, right? Will you?
